I'm stuck on level 47, it requires some motor skills that I don't seem to developing. I may have to throw in the towel, or find a way to defeat the level that does not involve fast fingers.
Neal Agarwal certainly puts a lot of time and consideration into these games. Respect. posted by Hot Pastrami! at 1:31 PM on September 17

Spoiler for Waldo
He is spread over two squares about 5 squares down a one right from the sailboat with the yellow sail
I cheated and skipped the vegetable level because I couldn't figure it out (it's easy to cheat using the browser dev tools). Fun game though! posted by Doleful Creature at 2:09 PM on September 17
I always wanted to believe that Waldo and Carmen Sandiego were a couple playing an elaborate Hide & Seek with each other, and we just accidentally stumbled onto and misinterpreted their game for our own entertainment. posted by Greg_Ace at 2:26 PM on September 17 [2 favorites]

Click for clueIf you click the in-game "refresh" icon, it cycles through several options to look for. I chose the "chillies sign," and found a store front window with that sign. posted by Hot Pastrami! at 3:39 PM on September 17
found Waldo, failed at drawing a circle [I hate finding Waldo, I hate drawing with a mouse]

I got to level 34 where you had to click squares in increasing order. I guess you are supposed to use an external tool to evaluate the expressions (or tediously estimate them by pen and paper), but I refuse to do that so now I'm a robot. posted by The arrows are too fast at 6:31 PM on September 17
Wouldn't the most human-like behavior be to say "fuck it" and give up after the first few tries? Relentlessly attempting to solve umpty-whatever successive levels is surely the act of a machine.

I'm pretty sure that I'm a machine and this is all a simulation, but also I'm the only machine, and the simulation exists entirely to observe me. It must be a total trip for you guys when I sleep. posted by Hot Pastrami! at 7:17 PM on September 17 [1 favorite]
I¡¯m just thinking about this one novella about an Ancient Alien tower on a remote planet that surely holds vast secrets¡ but first you have to get through an increasingly complex series of math problems, so complex that the protagonists rewire their brains to do them. Eventually they reshape themselves into creatures specifically built to pass some physical challenges.

I stopped at ¡°draw a circle¡±. I¡¯m a pro artist. My circles are good enough for design purposes and if I need a precise circle I have *tools* for that. posted by egypturnash at 7:20 PM on September 17
Regarding the circle-drawing, I failed many times attempting counter-clockwise circles, which was my initial preference. But eventually I tried clockwise, and soon had success. So a switch in default direction may be fruitful. posted by Hot Pastrami! at 7:33 PM on September 17

Trying to talk about this without spoiling anything: Apparently they changed the rules for stage 47 while I was playing because when I reloaded the controls changed to a more standard configuration (iykyk) and the target was eased up and also announced. Still the rules were more punishing than the more standard form of this interaction I've seen elsewhere and it was unduly difficult. But I have proven that I am a human, with only minor repetitive stress injury!

Ironically I screenshotted this and asked chatgpt because no way am I going through the effort of trying to figure it out on my own and chat gave me the correct answer in like three seconds. posted by Literaryhero at 1:45 AM on September 18 [1 favorite]

I tested out Literaryhero's ChatGPT cheat against my better judgement.
Impressively, it correctly OCR'd the image and correctly evaluated the task requirement and all the mathematical expressions. Then it persistently failed to order the resulting numbers correctly, even after being told several times that the values were ok but the ordering was wrong.
I'm counting that as a win for 2025's bleeding-edge CAPTCHA technology. posted by flabdablet at 12:56 PM on September 18 [1 favorite]
I stupidly clicked the "I'm not a robot" on the page with the million ways to not not be a robot before I finished reading all the permutations, and it disappeared the page and then I had to try to park a car for tenbillion hours, having missed a bunch of funny stuff. Booo! But it reminded me I hadn't checked out Internet Roadtrip, my favorite Neal.fun game in the history of Neal.fun, in a minute, so I checked, and the car is back in Maine! Whaaaa? And the evidence on the map that the car went briefly to Colorado and Belgium is now erased. In short, many exciting developments in Internet Roadtrip. posted by Don Pepino at 2:10 PM on September 18
Good to know, because I've been finding 47 more grind than fun. The only thing keeping me at it was the anticipation of something worthwhile hidden behind it and I'm relieved to have had that removed. posted by flabdablet at 5:53 AM on September 20

¡°Why?¡± asked Larry, in his practical way. "Sergeant," admonished the Lieutenant, "you mustn't use such language to your men." "Yes," accorded Shorty; "we'll git some rations from camp by this evenin'. Cap will look out for that. Meanwhile, I'll take out two or three o' the boys on a scout into the country, to see if we can't pick up something to eat." Marvor, however, didn't seem satisfied. "The masters always speak truth," he said. "Is this what you tell me?" MRS. B.: Why are they let, then? My song is short. I am near the dead. So Albert's letter remained unanswered¡ªCaro felt that Reuben was unjust. She had grown very critical of him lately, and a smarting dislike coloured her [Pg 337]judgments. After all, it was he who had driven everybody to whatever it was that had disgraced him. He was to blame for Robert's theft, for Albert's treachery, for Richard's base dependence on the Bardons, for George's death, for Benjamin's disappearance, for Tilly's marriage, for Rose's elopement¡ªit was a heavy load, but Caro put the whole of it on Reuben's shoulders, and added, moreover, the tragedy of her own warped life. He was a tyrant, who sucked his children's blood, and cursed them when they succeeded in breaking free. "Tell my lord," said Calverley, "I will attend him instantly." HoME²Ô¾®¿Õ·¬ºÅѸÀ×Á´½Ó
