Friday 25 July sees the release of Takkuuk, "An audio-visual installation and soundtrack sharing stories of indigenous life, culture and climate change in the arctic" by electronic music duo, Bicep.
Their eponymous debut and follow up Isles were solid pieces of contemporary electronica (Opal from the former and Apricots from the latter are good examples of their sound).
Now the Belfast duo are ready to unveil the ambitious multimedia project Takkuuk (pronounced tuck-kook). Created in partnership with the charity In Place of War, as part of their EarthSonic programme, the installation sees the pair collaborating with a number of Indigenous vocalists, including Katarina Barruk, Andachan, Sebastian Enequist (from Sound of the Damned), Tarrak, Nuija, Niilas and Silla.
Much of the music was created from a library of field recordings from trios to Greenland, recording the ambient sound of glaciers using bionic mics.
The album was produced in 2024 by Detroit-based producer and musician Matthew Dear in Árni Árnason from The Vaccines studio, during Iceland Airwaves festival in Reykjavík.
You can read some press on the project via The NME, Drowned in Sound, and The Guardian. It's actually well worth clicking the links to learn more about what the project is all about.
You can watch a trailer for the film on YouTube and buy the soundtrack on Bandcamp. Half of all royalties go to the Inuit and Sami artists and the other half to the charity In Place of War.

I have a bunch of their tunes on one of my go-to playlists (Spotify) when I don't want full albums.
