I was chuckling all along and then I lost it at "boioioioioioing". There is no reason for this to be as good and as funny as it is. posted by uncleozzy at 8:17 AM on February 9, 2021 [12 favorites]
This was as good as the original Zelda show was clearly awful. posted by migurski at 8:20 AM on February 9, 2021 [5 favorites]
This is way better than it has any right to be. posted by Blienmeis at 11:04 AM on February 9, 2021
Seriously, this is some kind of depraved masterpiece. posted by oulipian at 2:40 PM on February 9, 2021 [4 favorites]
It's really not that far off from Link's personality in the actual cartoon, either. posted by Scattercat at 3:00 PM on February 9, 2021 [2 favorites]
Is it weird that I find Beavis being a competent fighter the funniest part? posted by The Power Nap at 3:48 PM on February 9, 2021 [5 favorites]
My kid is watching the Super Mario Bros. Super Show. Every episode it features scenes from the "upcoming" episode of The Legend of Zelda, but never actually gets to them of course.
Part of me wants to show this to them while claiming that it's the actual show. My wiser part prevails, but I still enjoyed this a lot. posted by subocoyne at 4:33 PM on February 9, 2021 [6 favorites]
My kid is also watching that show, and is extremely excited whenever Zelda previews come on (which he calls "the cartoon in the cartoon").
I know I should not be surprised, but the Super Mario cartoon is truly shockingly bad. Like, they shot every episode in a single afternoon with no second takes. posted by HeroZero at 4:46 PM on February 9, 2021 [1 favorite]
As someone who worked as a writer on the original show, I am awash with strange sorrow that this person put waaaay more work into this than we did in the original. posted by The otter lady at 5:36 PM on February 9, 2021 [41 favorites]
This brought some much needed LOLs to my day. My 9 year old has been watching the Super Mario Bros Super Show recently. It's a special kind of... something. posted by Fleebnork at 5:25 AM on February 10, 2021
SMBSS has provided many opportunities to discuss literary/film genres, ethnic stereotypes, how different cultures interpret the same source material differently (e.g. the "Bowser" of the more recent games vs the "King Koopa" of the old US adaptations), and the general landscape of children's television in the 80's. We're going to watch the live action film sometime this month, which should be interesting. posted by subocoyne at 9:52 AM on February 10, 2021 [2 favorites]
I still really quite like the live-action SMB movie, despite the fact that it is objectively bad and completely unhinged. posted by Scattercat at 10:25 AM on February 11, 2021

¡°Why?¡± asked Larry, in his practical way. "Sergeant," admonished the Lieutenant, "you mustn't use such language to your men." "Yes," accorded Shorty; "we'll git some rations from camp by this evenin'. Cap will look out for that. Meanwhile, I'll take out two or three o' the boys on a scout into the country, to see if we can't pick up something to eat." Marvor, however, didn't seem satisfied. "The masters always speak truth," he said. "Is this what you tell me?" MRS. B.: Why are they let, then? My song is short. I am near the dead. So Albert's letter remained unanswered¡ªCaro felt that Reuben was unjust. She had grown very critical of him lately, and a smarting dislike coloured her [Pg 337]judgments. After all, it was he who had driven everybody to whatever it was that had disgraced him. He was to blame for Robert's theft, for Albert's treachery, for Richard's base dependence on the Bardons, for George's death, for Benjamin's disappearance, for Tilly's marriage, for Rose's elopement¡ªit was a heavy load, but Caro put the whole of it on Reuben's shoulders, and added, moreover, the tragedy of her own warped life. He was a tyrant, who sucked his children's blood, and cursed them when they succeeded in breaking free. "Tell my lord," said Calverley, "I will attend him instantly." HoME²Ô¾®¿Õ·¬ºÅѸÀ×Á´½Ó
