So you can get 4096 in 2048, and you're an old hand at Flappy Bird, but can you beat... Flappy48? (requires unity) posted by Pope Guilty (32 comments total)

For those of you curious about this but unable to install Unity, I found this GIF on reddit's /r/IndieGaming. posted by dragoon at 1:04 PM on April 22, 2014 [15 favorites]
To clarify the snark: I think my high score on Flappy bird was 15. I tried this version 6 times and didn't make it past the first pillar. I suck. And I hate this game. posted by sharpener at 1:05 PM on April 22, 2014
This game is a complete ripoff of Piou Piou vs. Threes. posted by demiurge at 1:17 PM on April 22, 2014 [11 favorites]
There's a button at the bottom to support the game, but I kind of wish there was a button that did the opposite. posted by Bulgaroktonos at 1:20 PM on April 22, 2014 [18 favorites]
The timing of this is just enough off of Flappy Bird that it will ruin you for both; kind of like when tennis players get their swing screwed up by racquetball & squash. posted by leotrotsky at 1:27 PM on April 22, 2014
I'm not good at either Flappy Bird or 2048. I'm pretty sure that means those will cancel each other out and I will be a genius at this game. posted by jeather at 3:19 PM on April 22, 2014 [1 favorite]
I'm starting to get the feeling that all the web-based games are moving inexorably toward congealing into one T-1000-like monster that will devour us all. posted by dry white toast at 3:21 PM on April 22, 2014 [2 favorites]
For me, it behaves VERY differently with the mouse button and the spacebar. Was a lot easier with the small arcs created by the mouse. posted by damehex at 3:35 PM on April 22, 2014

I just realised that 48 can't be obtained by doubling twos.
There's also Flappy 2048, which should work just fine in your favourite browser. posted by effbot at 5:43 PM on April 22, 2014 [3 favorites]
I don't have to look at this. I didn't have to click through. But I have done those things and I am a broken man. posted by wabbittwax at 8:48 PM on April 22, 2014
Yeah, well, Unity can bite me for not offering a Linux based web player.
Despite the fact Unity works under Linux. posted by Samizdata at 9:16 PM on April 22, 2014
did anyone else get serious snake vibes from this? when you end up with a chain i was like "o my god... it's flappy snake... NO" posted by emptythought at 9:23 PM on April 22, 2014 [1 favorite]

But didn't we just have an FPP about how practicing two somewhat related skills makes you a master much much faster than just practicing the same skill for 10,000 hours? posted by divabat at 10:40 PM on April 22, 2014 [1 favorite]
Ha, whenever I close my eyes and think "come up with a video game idea that is really simple and you can do it in a weekend and make money!!!" it looks something like a sliding puzzle game or tetris.
2048 has totally filled a void for me- I'd been looking for something I could play in tiny bursts, pull my droid out, spend a few seconds to a few minutes on, put away, and not care about past that. I kind of love it for that. After a few hours' play the strategy becomes second nature, and you can just sort of stop and go at will. posted by Pope Guilty at 2:30 AM on April 23, 2014

Semantic satiation (also semantic saturation) is a psychological phenomenon in which repetition causes a word or phrase to temporarily lose meaning for the listener, who then processes the speech as repeated meaningless sounds. posted by sebastienbailard at 8:52 PM on April 23, 2014
I was able to play this relatively effectively until it started producing numbers much larger than I was used to.

¡°Why?¡± asked Larry, in his practical way. "Sergeant," admonished the Lieutenant, "you mustn't use such language to your men." "Yes," accorded Shorty; "we'll git some rations from camp by this evenin'. Cap will look out for that. Meanwhile, I'll take out two or three o' the boys on a scout into the country, to see if we can't pick up something to eat." Marvor, however, didn't seem satisfied. "The masters always speak truth," he said. "Is this what you tell me?" MRS. B.: Why are they let, then? My song is short. I am near the dead. So Albert's letter remained unanswered¡ªCaro felt that Reuben was unjust. She had grown very critical of him lately, and a smarting dislike coloured her [Pg 337]judgments. After all, it was he who had driven everybody to whatever it was that had disgraced him. He was to blame for Robert's theft, for Albert's treachery, for Richard's base dependence on the Bardons, for George's death, for Benjamin's disappearance, for Tilly's marriage, for Rose's elopement¡ªit was a heavy load, but Caro put the whole of it on Reuben's shoulders, and added, moreover, the tragedy of her own warped life. He was a tyrant, who sucked his children's blood, and cursed them when they succeeded in breaking free. "Tell my lord," said Calverley, "I will attend him instantly." HoME²Ô¾®¿Õ·¬ºÅѸÀ×Á´½Ó
