Bluedawn (????) were a South Korean dreampop band characterized by soaring ethereal vocals, dreamy acoustic melancholy, quietly quixotic melody and softly cascading walls of sound in the vein of Mazzy Star and Hope Sandoval.
Led by songwriting duo Dawn (Han Hui-Jeong; ???) and Sorrow (Jeong Sang-Hun; ???), the band released two albums (2003's
Bluedawn and 2006's
When Spring Comes) and one combined double EP (2005's
Submarine Sickness & Waveless) before disbanding in late 2006. In 2012 the duo briefly reunited for a Christmas album,
Blue Christmas.
Both artists continue to release solo material. The Invisible Fish (?????), Jeong Sang-Hun's solo project, further develops the band's quiet crescendos and wall of sound into haunting acoustic/ambient/post-rock pieces. Han Hui-Jeong's 2008 album
Your Document (?? ????) refines the group's signature soft, wistful optimism and romantic late night melancholy into gently heartbreaking hymns full of what-could-have-beens.
