Often, to avoid injury, killer whales disable their prey before killing and eating it. This may involve throwing it in the air, slapping it with their tails, ramming it, or breaching and landing on it.Orcas probably have good reasons for all that but from a human perspective throwing your prey all around before you eat it looks a whole hell of a lot like torture. There's a reason "Jerk of the sea"* used to redirect to the orca page on Wikipedia.
