Vancouver Film School students create a portfolio project or demo reel for graduation designed to demonstrate their creative and technical abilities to potential employers and collaborators. Among the many great samples, I dig Rain Crowds in the 3D animation category, Dance! in classic animation, and Border in digital character animation. But there are literally hundreds to choose from, so please enjoy.post:www.metafilter.com,2010:site.92284Wed, 26 May 2010 16:43:25 -0800netbrosvancouverfilmschoolvfsstudentsportfolioanimationartcreativityvideoaudiodigitaldesigncharactersBy: Bookhouse

Interesting that you picked this particular art school to feature. Around this time, all art schools with animation programs have a Grad Show featuring a lot of cool stuff. And a lot of unbearable crap.
I understand that Vancouver tends to be one of the better ones year to year. CalArts is another.comment:www.metafilter.com,2010:site.92284-3107113Wed, 26 May 2010 18:18:16 -0800jabberjawBy: ODiV

When I started reading I thought this was going to be about plagiarism.comment:www.metafilter.com,2010:site.92284-3107188Wed, 26 May 2010 19:55:18 -0800ODiVBy: alms

Is there any way to view these at a larger size? Seeing what is clearly beautiful animation shrunk down to 2x3 inches is painful.comment:www.metafilter.com,2010:site.92284-3107193Wed, 26 May 2010 20:12:51 -0800almsBy: MrFish

I'm reminded somewhat of demoscene programs. Short, visually impressive computer art, often requiring great feats of programming skill. This scene still is around, if past its heyday.comment:www.metafilter.com,2010:site.92284-3107213Wed, 26 May 2010 20:39:14 -0800MrFishBy: blue_beetle

I was going to go to VFS. true story. Flew out there after finishing high school, did the meet and greets. But in the end, the siren song of software development pulled me in a different direction.comment:www.metafilter.com,2010:site.92284-3107259Wed, 26 May 2010 21:58:17 -0800blue_beetleBy: crumbly

Ringling has a lot of good stuff, too.
As far as reels go, though, I don't think they get much better than this .comment:www.metafilter.com,2010:site.92284-3107559Thu, 27 May 2010 06:54:50 -0800crumbly
¡°Why?¡± asked Larry, in his practical way. "Sergeant," admonished the Lieutenant, "you mustn't use such language to your men." "Yes," accorded Shorty; "we'll git some rations from camp by this evenin'. Cap will look out for that. Meanwhile, I'll take out two or three o' the boys on a scout into the country, to see if we can't pick up something to eat." Marvor, however, didn't seem satisfied. "The masters always speak truth," he said. "Is this what you tell me?" MRS. B.: Why are they let, then? My song is short. I am near the dead. So Albert's letter remained unanswered¡ªCaro felt that Reuben was unjust. She had grown very critical of him lately, and a smarting dislike coloured her [Pg 337]judgments. After all, it was he who had driven everybody to whatever it was that had disgraced him. He was to blame for Robert's theft, for Albert's treachery, for Richard's base dependence on the Bardons, for George's death, for Benjamin's disappearance, for Tilly's marriage, for Rose's elopement¡ªit was a heavy load, but Caro put the whole of it on Reuben's shoulders, and added, moreover, the tragedy of her own warped life. He was a tyrant, who sucked his children's blood, and cursed them when they succeeded in breaking free. "Tell my lord," said Calverley, "I will attend him instantly." HoME²Ô¾®¿Õ·¬ºÅѸÀ×Á´½Ó
