<a href="http://www.yannarthusbertrand.com/us/photogra/index.htm">Gallery of Yann Arthus-Bertrand's aerial photography.</a> Many parts of the earth look truly surreal at a certain distance. I never thought <a href="http://www.yannarthusbertrand.com/shared/images/photogra/landscap/images/p026_f.jpg">a mudslide</a> could look this good.post:www.metafilter.com,2002:site.13773Sat, 12 Jan 2002 18:46:33 -0800skallasearthyannarthusbertrandaerialphotographyBy: riffola

That mudslide sure looks pretty. The vats in Morocco look like a poster colour box from Crayola.comment:www.metafilter.com,2002:site.13773-204736Sat, 12 Jan 2002 18:52:09 -0800riffolaBy: scarabic

I think <a href="http://www.yannarthusbertrand.com/shared/images/photogra/landscap/images/p017_f.jpg">this</a> is a strikingly beautiful picture.
I also like that he gives us this definition at the bottom of the page:
<i>"Photography: process of producing images through the action of light on sensitised surfaces."</i>
For some reason, that really tickles my funny bone.comment:www.metafilter.com,2002:site.13773-204741Sat, 12 Jan 2002 19:02:46 -0800mr_crash_davisBy: gramcracker

If you haven't seen these images before, get yourself to a bookstore and check them out. They're amazing. There's a large coffee table version, and a smaller version now, too. Makes a great gift for anyone. I've got <a href="http://www.yannarthusbertrand.com/shared/images/photogra/landscap/images/p102_f.jpg">this one</a> in my room--it's stunning.comment:www.metafilter.com,2002:site.13773-204742Sat, 12 Jan 2002 19:05:11 -0800gramcrackerBy: MiguelCardoso

I like the way he explains <a href="http://www.yannarthusbertrand.com/us/photogra/index.htm">how to use </a>helicopters to find ready-made compositions, as if it were a gigantic reverse-zoom lens. Or a glass-bottom boat in the sky.
I wish all photography sites were like this. Plus, I'd never heard of him. So that's just perfect. Thanks, skallas.comment:www.metafilter.com,2002:site.13773-204775Sat, 12 Jan 2002 20:40:43 -0800MiguelCardosoBy: ig

The book is <i>really</i> worth it. <br />
I recall an old Ray Gun heli-snowboarding article which stated: there are
two kinds of helicopters, those that <b>have </b>crashed and those that<b>
will </b>crash.<i> I remember that everytime I fly. </i><br />
<font size="1">I'm no Arthus-Bertrand, but i've done a bit of flying and shooting
myself:<br />

For some really incredible air-to-air photos, check out Richard Cooke's photos:<br />
<a href="http://www.richard-cooke.com/">http://www.richard-cooke.com/</a><br />
His VERY expensive shots, such as the one described below, are just amazing:<br />
<font size="1">"The shot of the Harrier firing its rockets brought further
problems. The whole firing procedure is over in 0.2 seconds, and haphazard
shooting with a motor drive at five frames per second, could result in you
missing the whole episode. With the burst of rockets costing around £14,000
there would be "such a lot of egg on your face" that a more reliable
method had to be found."</font><br />

Large prints of this work were displayed all last year on the fence surrounding Jardin de Luxembourg in Paris last year. An incredibly pleasant way to encounter art.comment:www.metafilter.com,2002:site.13773-204808Sat, 12 Jan 2002 22:36:46 -0800Mo NickelsBy: diddlegnome

These photos have been available on <a href="http://home.fujifilm.com/efa/">the Fuji site</a> for quite some time, including some interesting <a href="http://home.fujifilm.com/efa/mg/indexIE.html">flash presentations</a> of the photos.comment:www.metafilter.com,2002:site.13773-204866Sun, 13 Jan 2002 04:01:59 -0800ZootoonBy: Zootoon

And while we're on the topic of aerial photos, check out <a href="http://www.arch.ced.berkeley.edu/kap/">Kite Aerial Photography</a>, apparently just as difficult as it sounds, and the results can just not be compared to any other type of aerial photography.comment:www.metafilter.com,2002:site.13773-204868Sun, 13 Jan 2002 04:04:48 -0800ZootoonBy: Flor

¡°Why?¡± asked Larry, in his practical way. "Sergeant," admonished the Lieutenant, "you mustn't use such language to your men." "Yes," accorded Shorty; "we'll git some rations from camp by this evenin'. Cap will look out for that. Meanwhile, I'll take out two or three o' the boys on a scout into the country, to see if we can't pick up something to eat." Marvor, however, didn't seem satisfied. "The masters always speak truth," he said. "Is this what you tell me?" MRS. B.: Why are they let, then? My song is short. I am near the dead. So Albert's letter remained unanswered¡ªCaro felt that Reuben was unjust. She had grown very critical of him lately, and a smarting dislike coloured her [Pg 337]judgments. After all, it was he who had driven everybody to whatever it was that had disgraced him. He was to blame for Robert's theft, for Albert's treachery, for Richard's base dependence on the Bardons, for George's death, for Benjamin's disappearance, for Tilly's marriage, for Rose's elopement¡ªit was a heavy load, but Caro put the whole of it on Reuben's shoulders, and added, moreover, the tragedy of her own warped life. He was a tyrant, who sucked his children's blood, and cursed them when they succeeded in breaking free. "Tell my lord," said Calverley, "I will attend him instantly." HoME²Ô¾®¿Õ·¬ºÅѸÀ×Á´½Ó
