Highschool kids cover Tool's "Forty Six & 2" (SLYT)

The performers are students of Aaron O'Keefe, a Nashville-area private music instructor. There's more, including this short solo by drummer Curtis Moss.

I don't want to ruin the surprise but the singer was magnificent and not even a tiny bit at all what I expected. The kids are alright.

That was excellent. Music by minors has come a long way since the Langley Schools Music Project (previously on the blue, but that was twelve years ago and the link is long dead).

The drummer and the bassist are what did it for me. The singer is great in her own right, but she doesn't have the chest cavity to match Maynard's resonance and roar yet. And that's not her fault. She'll get it as she grows up and her body gets larger. But still, yeah... nailed it. I love this song, and this album, and this band.

Still waiting for us to evolve the additional two. Also - shredded it. So cool. And it shows how good a drummer Danny Carey is that it takes 4 people to play his part (not taking away from the kids at all look at the little guy awwwwww)

This is great. It's good to see some of the kids actually having fun with it. Too often you see videos of "kid bands" playing covers looking like Chuck E Cheese automata. That mushy-ass guitar tone is killing me, though.

Awesome. The drummer and bassist really hold the whole thing together (pretty much like they do in Tool) but that girl singing, considering the contents of the lyrics, puts a really interesting twist on it. Fantastic.

I thought the singer sounded a lot like Gwen Stefani (except that it seemed like her natural singing voice instead of some weird, forced affectation). I loved this!

I like how, in certain drawly parts (e.g., 3:26), there seemed to be a bleeding-over between stylized pop R&B melisma and grunge/hard rock vocal affectation, but where the curlicues of additive syllables can't quite be made to obviously signify one way or the other.

Wow... I'm not musically inclined but I think Tool would be a pretty hard band to cover. Their music and vocals seem pretty complex and my hunch is that doing it a little bit wrong could sound very bad. Quite impressive.
